Building of the Darkroom

For this project I shall be collecting materials in order to make my own DIY darkroom, this will be used so I won't need to depend on sending my Film materials off to get developed. I also want to make this project as a whole from recycling old film stock, to stripping it down and taking off the current emulsion images, to creating my own black and white film emulsion, to capturing an image onto the DIY emulsion and finally to hand develop the emulsion using coffee grinds as a developer so the film is all hand processed from beginning to end.

I have started to research how I can put together a darkroom in the bathroom of my flat. I have discovered that you can purchase lamp parts and even red light bulbs from the local Clas Ohlson store.

I am trying were possible to keep the cost of this project as low as possible to show just how cheaply film stock can be recycled and then hand processed. I will be looking around in local stores, charity shops, antique shops and online auction sites such as eBay and Gumtree to see if I can get the components I require for this project more cheaply.

I predict that the techniques i use will work to a certain extent, but the overall quality of the images on the film will be poor. This will require much more testing as the project continues.

Now that I have gathered some materials needed to build my darkroom I have begun to put it together. The results of which have been quite scary as the bathroom now resembles that of a cereal killer. . .
